Pierric Poupet, new associate head coach at Paris
Pierric Poupet (41 years old), who has been head coach at ASVEL for the last two and a half seasons, is joining the Paris Basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Maxime Lefèvre’s coaching staff is now complete ! With the arrival of Pierric Poupet, Paris Basketball has brought in a coach with several years’ experience in the EuroLeague, both on and off the court. Before taking the helm at one of French basketball’s top clubs, the Normandy native enjoyed a long career as a basketball player. Having played for clubs including Limoges, Bourg-en-Bresse and Roanne, the point guard began his coaching career alongside his playing career. From the under-13s to the U18 ÉLITE, he coached several youth age groups at Denain before moving up to the next level in 2020.
No sooner had he announced his retirement after 18 professional seasons than Pierric Poupet became Denain’s sporting director. But it wasn’t long before his name caught Tony Parker’s eye. By 2022, the French coach had joined ASVEL, where he was primarily responsible for player development, including a certain Victor Wembanyama. One thing led to another, and the Normandy native rose through the ranks: third assistant, second assistant in charge of offence, first assistant, head of video analysis and, finally, head coach !
Appointed head coach of the Villeurbanne side in January 2024, Pierric Poupet got off to a flying start, earning him a two-season contract extension. And despite a turbulent period, he managed to keep ASVEL at the top of the Betclic ÉLITE during this time.
His experience and knowledge of European basketball perfectly complement the profile of our new head coach – Maxime Lefèvre.
Welcome, Pierric Poupet.
