A first mural telling the story of Charles Hermite
To give young people a pen and a paintbrush to tell the story of their everyday lives. That is the aim of the Paris Basketball Foundation’s Urban Art programme, launched to make art a means of self-expression and a way of promoting local neighbourhoods.
For this first edition, the Foundation set up shop just a stone’s throw from the adidas arena – more specifically, near Charles Hermite. Behind this mural lie a series of workshops during which young people from the neighbourhood were invited to share their vision of everyday life: what represents them, what they love, the stories and symbols of their surroundings.

These exchanges gave rise to a collaborative artwork. With the guidance of the artist Tcheko, the young people came up with the words, colours and design elements for this inaugural mural, commissioned by the Paris Basketball Foundation. A work conceived together with them, intended for their neighbourhood.
Several weeks of work culminated in the unveiling of the mural at Charles Hermite last Wednesday. This marks another important step in the relationship the Foundation aims to build with the neighbourhoods surrounding the adidas arena.
Urban Art reflects our beliefs! At the Paris Basketball Foundation, we are firmly convinced that sport, art and culture are driving forces. They help to build connections and enable young people to tell their own stories.
