This Sunday, September 22, in Saint-Amand, our women’s team will play the first match in its history. This inaugural trip to the northern region marks a highly symbolic turning point for the project of our young Club, which has continuously reinvented itself since its creation on July 12, 2018.
Nearly five years after laying that first stone, Paris Basketball is proud to have reached this new milestone. A fundamental step that will allow the Club to accelerate and, most importantly, diversify its development by embracing women’s sports, a powerful social tool for inclusion.
Through the overall success of its model and that of the Olympic Games, which have helped showcase French sports in their entirety, Paris now wants to offer a women’s section that meets the expectations of the Parisian public, known for its appetite for novelty.
“We are extremely proud to launch this team, the result of more than two years of work, including the creation of a dedicated committee for this project,” says Alejandro Requena, Vice President of the Club in charge of strategy. “The journey we’ve achieved with the men’s team – from PRO B to EuroLeague – inspires us to replicate that success in women’s basketball. The road ahead is long, expectations are high, but we approach the challenges ahead with humility and ambition.”
As the adventure begins this Sunday in N2 – the equivalent of the fourth division – it marks a major moment for the entire basketball community in Greater Paris. It’s a special event we want to share with all our fans on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
Indeed, two days after hosting Red Star Belgrade in the EuroLeague, Coach Julien Destoc’s team, strengthened by the experience of Isabelle Fijalkowski in his staff, will play at the adidas Arena, welcoming Strasbourg. This game will take place before the Paris vs. La Rochelle match, with the presence of new recruits (Paloma Wouts, Stéphanie Dufour, Touty Gandega, Chloé Westelynck).
We’re expecting many of you to come and feel the excitement during this first home game, which will kick off at 1:00 PM.
David Kahn, President of Paris Basketball:
“The time has come for Paris Basketball to take this new step by integrating a women’s team into its structure. We are ready. And women’s basketball, on a global scale, is more than ready – the explosion of interest and enthusiasm for women’s basketball around the world has been incredible to witness. Now, we will no longer be mere observers. We will be active participants. We will work tirelessly to make our women’s team a cultural asset for Greater Paris, alongside our men’s team, and a source of pride for the entire Paris Basketball family.”
