First league defeat of the season

Two days after a victory in overtime against Chalon, Paris Basketball suffered their very first defeat in the Betclic ÉLITE on Tuesday in Cholet on matchday 13 (90–94).

The Prince of Paris puts in a sensational first performance. His various offensive strengths are on full display. First up is the supersonic Nadir, capable of soaring over a wall of hands on a drive. Then the sharpshooter Nadir steps up to double the lead from long range. Whilst Cholet head to the free-throw line and sink free throws one after another, our Parisians keep taking shots from around the perimeter. This is an area of expertise in which Tyson and JMO excel. Hampered by foul trouble, Paris Basketball also suffer from Aaron Towo-Nansi’s long-range success towards the end of the first quarter. Faced with this brief dip in form, our players adapted intelligently by moving closer to the basket with the ball in hand. Although trailing at the start of the second quarter (19–28), Paris quickly saw a resurgence in efficiency. Their presence on the rebound and, more generally, in the paint became more pronounced. Our team also made greater use of the fast break. Whether it was Frank at the back or Maozinha under the basket, Paris’s influence grew significantly at La Meilleraie. And following a pass from Joël to Momo on the break, Maxime Lefèvre’s men closed the gap to a single possession. This comeback was confirmed a few seconds later by a mid-range shot from Tyson (41–43).

Paris Basketball are building on their second-quarter form. Fast-paced play is combined with good ball movement to take the lead. Our Parisians take control of the game thanks, amongst other things, to the ‘Prince of the Capital’s’ 5 out of 6 from the three-point line. On both sides, the number of attempts increases considerably. But unlike CB, Paris benefits from better shot selection to move six points clear. Tony Snell, however, allows our opponents to close the gap on the scoreboard heading into the third quarter (61–58). Still neck and neck, the 2026 play-off semi-finalists kept racking up shots from beyond the arc. Despite aggressive perimeter defence on the ball-carrier, the points kept piling up. Very few time-outs, very few long possessions. Both Malcolm Cazalon’s side and Alizé’s side relentlessly returned every blow they conceded. A real boxing match in which both sides were looking for the knockout. When it wasn’t Tyson from behind the arc, Joël took it upon himself to find the gap in the paint. The gap widened as the crunch time approached. However, our team could see a significant comeback attempt, spearheaded by Mohamed Diarra, looming in their rear-view mirrors.

With two clutch plays, Frank kept his club at the top of the table. However, with five seconds remaining, the Betclic ÉLITE leaders conceded an equaliser (79–79). Forty-eight hours later, it was time for another overtime! Nadir immediately responded to Noah Locke’s mid-range basket. Mohamed Diarra put his side ahead before the home side fought back. In a nail-biting finish, our Parisians lost their unbeaten record on home soil (90–94).

An equally hard-fought clash awaits you this Sunday afternoon against Frédéric Fauthoux’s JL Bourg en Bresse. Find the last remaining tickets directly on our online ticket office.
