Paris takes the lead in the league
Paris Basketball now sit alone at the top of the Betclic ÉLITE table following their spectacular overtime victory on Sunday evening against Chalon in front of a roaring crowd at the adidas arena (116–112) !
A massive stop by Momo on Carl Ponsar, followed immediately by a three-pointer from Nadir. For anyone who still had doubts: the “Prince of Paris” has officially put his recovery period behind him! His return to French courts didn’t get off to the best start, however; fueled by Jeremiah Hill’s sharp shooting from deep, Chalon quickly took the lead. But our second unit stepped up to bring us right back into contention. Allan scored near the rim, Tyson hit from the top of the key, and Jeremy knocked down two shots from the corner, significantly closing the gap for Paris Basketball. A back-and-forth battle ensued, with both teams trading baskets. Just as Élan looked to pull away on the scoreboard, Frank caught fire from long range—capping it off with a buzzer-beater (21–26)! Shortly after returning to the floor, Allan nearly tore the rim down on a fast break. Although both teams rank among the most potent offensive sides in the Betclic ÉLITE, their defensive intensity left no room for hesitation; the path to the basket became a true obstacle course. Paris initially relied on numerous long-range attempts before shifting focus closer to the rim, where they found greater success. Chalon began committing fouls, leading to free throws—and, in some cases, “and-one” opportunities. In terms of scoring, our Parisians were right on par with their usual standards—as were our opponents. Just as the visitors threatened to push their lead toward double digits, they were hit by a sudden surge from Joël, who ignited the offense with two massive shots from beyond the arc. Elric Delord tries to temper our point guard’s intensity by calling a timeout, but to no avail. The French international gives them no respite! Just as the “Ayayi storm” begins to subside, a fresh gale—in the form of “Captain Seba”—sweeps through, leaving Mathéo Leray’s teammates reeling right before the halftime break (57-58).

Half-time, certainly, but no change in the nature of the match! Just like the masterclass he put on in Roanne last week, Joël continues to dish out assists. Tyson, for his part, is still delivering from the ‘parking lot’. The icing on the cake: Allan decides to transform himself into a Boeing 747 to soar through the air and slam dunk after slam dunk. He’s joined by the ‘Airbus’ Momo. Between the two of them, they’re stringing together alley-oops! It was ultimately thanks to yet another basket snatched from the rim by Allan that Paris Basketball took the lead for the very first time on the scoreboard. The Frank-Nadir duo took over from there. One thing is certain: Paris has clearly identified a weakness with this strong outside-inside connection. Otherwise, we can always rely on our serial shooter Jeremy. The die is cast; on to the fourth quarter (81–81)! The momentum is with the Chalon side. Yet the opening metres of this final sprint are clearly in favour of our Parisians. Allan strikes first with a well-timed interception, Joel then does his ‘Joel’ thing, and finally Seba pulls off a thunderous ‘and-one’ from behind the arc. Birthday or not, our captain isn’t giving our opponents any gifts. In the space of just a few plays, Paris goes on a massive run! Of course, Élan tries to fight back by stringing together a series of successful possessions. Chalon, however, is back in the game!
With 11 seconds to go before the final whistle, the visitors had the ball in their hands to equalise. Jeremiah Hill made the most of the opportunity. 104–104 – time for extra time! The Prince of Paris launched us brilliantly on the break when Élan faltered. With the game still neck and neck, Momo showed his strength before giving his side the lead twice in the paint. Those were the points our opponents simply couldn’t afford! This time, their big men were unable to respond. Maxime Lefèvre’s side secured their sixth consecutive league win and remain unbeaten in the heart of France (116–112).
In the midst of the Halloween Game, Paris Basketball had a scare in this overtime thriller. But in the end, it was the capital that shone!
