Paris Terrace Monaco

After a blistering first quarter, Paris Basketball broke its all-time single-game scoring record in Monaco on Sunday evening during the penultimate round of the league (123–95).

For a fleeting moment, the usual sunshine on the Rock was struck by Parisian thunder. Lightning bolts ripped through the already tense Gaston MĂ©decin arena, its energy palpable in the electric atmosphere. Already decimated, the Roca Team watched their leader, Mathew Strazel, commit two fouls in under two minutes before Nemanja Nedovic was ejected. Disconcerted, Monaco tried desperately to resist, relying on their youth. But on the other side, the Parisians were untroubled. The “run and gun” or “up-tempo” button was immediately activated. Paris Basketball capitalized on this contrast in tactics, relentlessly attacking the red and white basket. Fueled by a combination of steals and blocks, the teammates of a clinical Seba from three-point range punished their opponents in transition. A one-minute lead constantly separated them from their adversaries. The sky finally fell on the heads of the French runners-up when our Prince of Paris sank a shot from… half-court! This was 3 of the 40 points scored by Paris in the first quarter (40-25). Our athletic superiority completely opened up the home team. In addition to the numerous drives we made, our players converted open opportunities from beyond the arc. As eventful as it was unusual, this game saw a more balanced second quarter. Although our shots fell less frequently, the gap stabilized. Then, the young Monegasque team experienced a hot streak from beyond the arc, allowing them to close the gap somewhat. But the initial combined lead between the two teams allowed us to maintain a more than substantial cushion at halftime (67-54).

Thanks to a powerful run from Lamar, coupled with Seba’s accuracy from behind the arc, Paris Basketball held off Monaco’s comeback. More broadly speaking, our sharpshooters significantly thwarted the red-and-whites’ attempt at a comeback. Not to mention the ever-impressive vertical leap of our big men when it comes to blocking shots. And much like in the second quarter, Paris waited until the final minutes of the third quarter to set the record straight. A neat lay-up at the top of the key followed by a free-throw from Jared rounded off this positive resurgence from our Parisians (94-77). Despite the efforts of the Roca Team, our French champions remained in control of the match. Once again, the Monegasques, in a frenzy at the start of the final quarter, thought they could unsettle our players. But once again, Julius Thomas’s men responded immediately through Yak, whose off-centre shots consistently found their way into the heart of the hoop. What followed was yet another spell of dominance from Momo. In the absence of our former player Kevarrius Hayes, our centre dominated the paint. It was too much for Monaco! Focused, our team finished the job in style on the Rock (123-95).

Once they had built up a lead, Paris Basketball kept their cool throughout the match. This victory also means that our Parisians will be competing for the Betclic ÉLITE title next Saturday at the adidas arena against ASVEL.
