Shorts: “Incredible to leave my mark on history”

After becoming the all-time leading scorer in the club’s history, our point guard reflected on this achievement and the success of the entire team.

What does this mean to you?
T.J. Shorts II : First of all, I’m extremely grateful to everyone who has helped me along the way—my teammates, my coaches, Tuomas Iisalo, and now Tiago Splitter. They’ve all played a part in my success because none of this would have been possible without them. It’s an incredible feeling to be recognized by the club and to leave my mark on its history. Of course, I’m sure someone will eventually come along and surpass me, but for now, it’s an amazing feeling. I’m just happy to have achieved something like this.

The team always seems to put you in the best position, but you also share the ball a lot. What makes this team so special?
We’ve got great guys who want to work hard and win. There’s no ego on this team. People can yell at each other, and no one takes it personally. It’s always about finding a way to win. I think that’s what people see when we’re on the court. My teammates know that if they’re open, I’ll find them, and I think they never have to worry about that.

Does this translate into your results?
Yes, exactly. Over the past few months, we’ve built even more solidarity. I think it shows in everything—the jokes, the fun, the smiles—it all carries over, both on and off the court. It’s just a result of spending so much time together.

What’s next?
I don’t know what the future holds. Right now, we’re focused on hosting ASVEL this Thursday. We’re just trying to maintain this momentum because our main goal is what lies ahead at the end of the season.
