Our Parisian side return to winning ways in the EuroLeague

Our Parisians are shining in the heart of the City of Gold! After a sensational second quarter, Paris Basketball returned to winning ways in the EuroLeague on Tuesday evening with a 99–93 victory away at Dubaï (99-93).

The performance in Roanne was no one-off! On Sunday, Joël dropped 26 points against the ÉLITE 2 champions. Just 48 hours later, he’s hitting those same high standards – this time on one of Europe’s biggest stages. Our point guard has truly taken charge. Jared got things moving with his signature mid-range game, before the “Ayayi show” took over the Coca-Cola Arena. Benefiting from excellent off-ball movement by our big men, the French international brought the ball up, sliced through the heart of the Emirati defense, and finished through contact. When he wasn’t driving, he was pulling up from deep. With 7 points already on the board in just a handful of possessions, he set the tone for Paris’s strong start. In fact, our backcourt was firing on all cylinders: along with Jared and Joël, “Captain Seba” chipped in with points, as did Nadir – making his return to the court after several weeks on the sidelines. Dubai, meanwhile, caught us off guard with rapid ball advancement, coast-to-coast plays, and long, vertical passes designed to exploit transition opportunities. However, this fast-paced style eventually gave way to more conventional half-court sets, centered around their cornerstone, Mfiondu Kabengele. Despite trailing on the scoreboard, our squad closed the gap to just a single possession thanks to a stellar run at the end of the first quarter (23–25). As soon as the teams returned from a timeout, the action intensified in the paint, and free throws – previously nowhere to be found – finally began to appear. Beyond their offensive prowess, Maxime Lefèvre’s side showcased another key strength during the second part of the half: their full-court defense. Suffocating in the backcourt, the teammates – led by an omnipresent Terry – made life a living hell for the opposing ball-handlers. A flurry of interceptions, blocks, and defensive stops suddenly descended upon the “City of Gold.” While our speedsters capitalized on every turnover, the home side simply couldn’t find an answer. 10-2, 17-3… Xavi Pascual’s instructions proved futile against our defensive discipline. It wasn’t until the sixth minute of the second quarter that our opponents finally scored their first points from open play!

This difference of around ten points varies little despite the return of the Emiratis to business. Our interiors are in tune, both from afar with Maozinha, on the counter like Alize and Allan, without forgetting on alley-oop where Air Momo continues the flights. Dubai is once again on the path to the basket, of course, but our Parisians are not calming their fire in attack. At the break, we maintain a good lead (54-47)! Good passes from Joël put Paris on the right track in this 2nd period. Except that behind it, the long distance address does not follow unlike the local ones. A drought which Seba violently puts an end to with two big 3-point shots. Nadir then takes charge of giving us back the lead of the game. This complicated 3QT, however, ends on a positive note with a midrange at the buzzer signed Jared (73-72). No time to waste, the defenses immediately activate money time mode. In the middle of these hermetic rearguards, Terry finds the fault first. Jared continues with finesse as does Dwayne Bacon who answers us from the parking lot. In this game of distant precision, Paris Basketball has in its ranks an elite weapon in the presence of its captain! In difficulty, Xavi Pascual draws the time-out card 5 minutes from time. Dubai is indeed experiencing a gap in attack due to a Parisian defense still endowed with a significant level of intensity. Mfiondu Kabengele also made the unfortunate experience against Momo… However, the City of Gold absolutely does not give up! The latter advance, get closer and then meet the Prince of Paris on their way up. Since the logo, it definitively buries any hope of a comeback (99-93).

Delivering outstanding performances at their best and remaining solid when things weren’t going their way, Paris Basketball caused a bit of a stir by securing a win in Dubai. Buoyed by an exceptional second quarter, our Parisians were able to capitalise on this burst of energy.
