Paris Basketball Celebrates Women’s Sports
On the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day, Paris Basketball had the pleasure of organizing, on Saturday, March 8, a day entirely dedicated to women’s sports at the Le Stadium gymnasium, in partnership with the City Hall of the 13th district.
This event, focused on sharing, commitment, and inclusion, brought together many clubs and associations from our network. Throughout the day, the public had the opportunity to take part in sports activities open to everyone. Our coaches helped numerous young people, including some with disabilities, discover the joys of basketball in a friendly atmosphere.
The day was marked by three women’s matches, including a game of our women’s team playing in National 2, which ended with a great victory over Chenôve (73-50). The first whistle was blown by Jérôme Coumet, Mayor of the 13th district, symbolizing institutional support for the event.
Additionally, a series of inspiring speeches, hosted by Lona Jackson, content creator and official speaker of our women’s team, took place on Saturday. Several engaged speakers shared their experiences and views on women’s sports:
- Isabelle Fijalkowski, assistant coach of our women’s team, former professional player, and the first Frenchwoman drafted into the WNBA
- Mélody Tonolli, deputy to the Mayor of Paris
- Morgane Lacombe, deputy Mayor of the 13th district, responsible for gender equality
- Charlotte Namura-Guizonne, sports journalist and TV presenter
- Sarra Djeghnoune Delort, sports radio journalist and general secretary of the Women Sports Journalists Association
- Jeanne Besse, general secretary of the Paris basketball committee
- Laura Balestrière, vice-president and treasurer of the Paris basketball committee
- Rama Diallo, official speaker of Paris Basketball and president of the Paris Basketball Association
A roundtable discussion, rich in exchanges and testimonies, highlighted the journeys of women involved in sports, the media, associations, and the promotion of gender equality.
Paris Basketball is proud to have contributed to this committed day in favor of women’s sports and warmly thanks all the participants, clubs, associations, and partners who made this event a success.
