Paris stumbles just one step away from the throne

The season is over. Paris Basketball lost 92–101 in Game 5 of the Betclic ÉLITE Finals against Monaco, who are crowned French champions.

The finale of this final series kicks off with the ‘Nadir’ special! Daulton doesn’t waste any time either, firing off a shot straight away from the car park. For the first time in these Finals, the Monegasques find themselves trailing in the first quarter. But Monaco remain the best team in France in the first half. Trailing by a single possession after 10 minutes (24–27), our Parisians keep up their frenetic pace, eventually forcing the Principality side to call a time-out. Once again, the visitors rely on their long-range shooting to halt our good run. An aggressive long-range duel between Yak and Begarin characterised a closely contested middle of the second quarter. The two teams finally went into the break with an extremely tight score of 50–53 !

Back on the court, Lamar sinks a mid-range shot before Momo and then Daulton follow up with dunks. Paris Basketball step up the pace and Monaco try in vain to rediscover their long-range form. A few attacks slip through the net, but it proves too close for comfort. As the visitors try to close the gap, Amath dashes all hopes in the third quarter (81–73). But spurred on by the returning Mike James, the club from the Rock overtake us after a time-out (81–82). Despite their poor form, our Parisians limit the damage by keeping the deficit to around one possession. Every ball in the air is the subject of a fierce battle for the rebound. Here we are, right in the thick of the final crunch time of our season! Jaron Blossomgame scores straight away from the free-throw line. Lamar then lets his power do the talking, but Begarin replies with a 0º shot. The Roca Team eventually clinch the win (92–101).

It’s all over – Paris Basketball has handed over the crown to Monaco.
