Paris Basketball announces the departure of Julius Thomas

Paris Basketball today announces the departure of Julius Thomas, who is leaving the club having made his mark on one of the most significant periods in the club’s history.

Having joined Tuomas Iisalo’s coaching staff in the summer of 2023, Julius Thomas enjoyed a rise that was as rapid as it was exceptional, fully embodying the values of ambition, hard work and daring that have defined Paris Basketball since its inception.

Following the 2023/2024 season alongside Tuomas Iisalo, which saw Paris Basketball reach the Betclic Elite finals, Thomas served as Tiago Splitter’s assistant coach in 2024/2025 during the club’s debut EuroLeague campaign, which culminated in a historic French Championship title.

Promoted to interim head coach on 23 May 2026 following the departure of Francesco Tabellini, Thomas enabled the team to continue its progress on the national and European stages, whilst preserving the spectacular, fast-paced and innovative style of play that sets Paris Basketball apart, and to reach the Betclic Elite finals once again. (Record: 16 wins – 8 defeats).

A remarkable career path, which testifies to his talent and his ability to rise to the greatest challenges at just 28 years of age.

David Kahn, President of Paris Basketball :

“ Since its inception, Paris Basketball has been a club driven by young, ambitious and determined men and women who have never stopped aiming higher. No one has embodied this spirit better than Julius Thomas.

In less than three years, Julius has risen from the role of third assistant coach to that of head coach of a EuroLeague team and a French league finalist. He has achieved all this before even turning 30. His career is remarkable and demonstrates exceptional personal qualities, leadership and skills.

We will always be grateful to him for his contribution to the club’s development. We wish him, and his future wife Toni, all the best for this new chapter in their lives, and we will always be delighted to welcome him back to Paris. ”

Julius Thomas :

“ I would like to thank Paris Basketball for these three extraordinary years.

I felt the fans’ affection and support from my very first day at the club. I could never have imagined having such an experience.

I would also like to thank the players and everyone who placed their trust in me throughout this journey.

It has been an immense privilege to be part of this family, and I will always remain one of you. ”

Everyone at Paris Basketball would like to extend a warm thank you to Julius for his commitment, professionalism and contribution to the club’s development.

We wish him all the best for the rest of his career and much happiness in his personal life.

Paris Basketball was the first Betclic Elite club to see its coaches move on to the NBA, with Tuomas Iisalo and Tiago Splitter.

Julius, the future is yours.
