Monaco equalizes

Just before heading to the Principality, Paris Basketball conceded an equalizer during Game 2 of the Betclic ELITE Finals, which was dominated by Monaco (90-102).

The physical battle seen in the first round of this series continues immediately in this second quarter. However, the three-pointers are slow to fall. Meanwhile, Monaco warms up at the free-throw line while Paris confirms its dominance on the boards! Our scoreboard opens after a few minutes. The returning Derek Willis strikes first, Captain Seba responds from both long and close range before Nadir ignites the scoring. Monaco continues to rely on drives to maintain a comfortable lead. We are finding it more difficult to respond to the White attacks, mainly due to our still-shaky shooting. A difficult start for Paris Basketball (15-28). Far from being defeated, our players come back determined, spurred on by a powerful and-one from Lamar! Transition play and good ball movement give us chances, opportunities. Problem: long-range shots are proving unpredictable. To compensate, we relied on our athleticism under the basket, but it proved insufficient against the Roca Team’s surgical offense. Led by four players with over nine points, our opponents shot over 50% from beyond the arc. A difficult end to the first half was redeemed by a superb final minute filled with blocks from Momo, a big three-pointer from Jared, and above all, a huge buzzer-beater from Seba (41-53)!

This surge on the scoreboard didn’t materialize after the break. Paris Basketball struggled to find their rhythm, unlike Monaco. A few possessions later, Nadir started throwing down some step-backs while Seba continued his brilliant run. Our increased power with the ball coincided with a renewed defensive intensity in the paint. The Monaco team struggled to break down our defense. In response, the visitors successfully moved away from the basket, preventing us from mounting a truly decisive run. However, we finished the 3rd quarter on a positive note (65-77). Especially since the 4th quarter began with a technical foul by Monaco, which Justin converted into points. And as always when our Parisians get back on track, a Strazel or Okobo was there to stop the bleeding. Even though Julius Thomas’s team initially seemed to be reeling, a big dunk from Enzo combined with a big shot from Yak ignited the Adidas Arena! On the verge of closing the gap to under 10 points, Paris conceded a final surge from Monaco. Despite their last-ditch efforts, our team couldn’t force a comeback (90-102).

A predictable defeat for Paris Basketball. While never completely out of contention, our players couldn’t capitalize on their momentum to turn things around.

Next up, it’s off to Monaco! Depending on the outcome of the next two games, a Game 5 could be played at the Adidas Arena. Stay tuned for the latest updates by clicking right here.
