Final chapter of the trilogy

For the third consecutive year, the Betclic ÉLITE Finals will pit Paris Basketball against Monaco. Each team has been crowned champion once, and they will settle the score definitively in the coming days.

It’s a tie, back to square one! The face of French basketball for the past three years, both Paris and Monaco conclude this memorable trilogy that will undoubtedly go down in French sporting history. Especially since this rivalry didn’t start yesterday !

The first chapter of this rivalry took place in 2024. In their first-ever finals appearance in the top league, Tuomas Iisalo’s Paris Basketball arrived with a bang, fresh off a Leaders Cup and EuroCup victory. To the south stood a more experienced Roca Team, as evidenced by their recent third-place finish in the EuroLeague. Lacking home-court advantage, our players lost the first round despite a tremendous fourth quarter, before relying on the 45 points of the Nadir-TJ duo to tie the game. Then, back in the capital, Paris conceded two fatal blowouts. Experience prevailed over recklessness, certainly, but our players learned.

The following year, the situation was completely different. Under Tiago Splitter’s leadership, year two of our project unfolded better than expected: qualification for the EuroLeague playoffs, victory in the French Cup, and first place in the regular season. This success contrasted sharply with that of Monaco, who suffered a trophyless season following their EuroLeague final defeat. Mike James’s team, however, remained formidable. Unflappable during the first two home games, our Parisians failed to convert either of their two game-winning opportunities in the Principality. Worse still, Paris Basketball found themselves trailing in the fourth quarter of the decisive game. This was the moment Nadir and TJ chose to take control. Thanks to some well-executed offensive plays, they came back and won the game !

As Game 1 of the 2026 Finals approaches, the situation is quite different for each team. After a summer filled with changes, Paris Basketball managed to maintain its position at the top of the league, retaining its first-place finish in the regular season. Meanwhile, Roca Team is experiencing a challenging season behind the scenes, offset by achieving a three-peat on the national stage. This final chapter of the trilogy promises to keep basketball fans on the edge of their seats until the very end.
