Paris takes revenge on ASVEL in double overtime

COMEBACK MODE ACTIVATED! Trailing by 20 points at half-time, Paris Basketball wins this 15th day of the championship in double overtime on ASVEL’s court (93-98).

Faced with Thomas Heurtel’s hot start to the game, Paris Basketball relied on its explosiveness to cause damage near the hoop (7 fouls drawn in the 1st quarter). Down by 14 at the start of the second quarter (28-14), our players immediately reduced the deficit to 8 thanks to two XXL shots from Jared Rhoden and Nadir Hifi.

The same thing happened at the start of the third quarter ! The first line of pressure forced ASVEL into fouls, while at the other end, our Parisians punished the slightest defensive lapse. The result: Paris kept their basket untouched for more than 3 MINUTES ! Better still, thanks to some big shots from the M’BayeOuattara duo, our team came back to within 3 possessions (56-48). To this renewed run-and-gun play, our players added rebounds (6 more) to end the quarter with an impressive score (63-57).

In just 10 minutes, Paris Basketball made a TOTAL comeback! With a three-pointer followed by a superb alley-oop, the Prince of Paris (23 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds) brought his team within one point (65-64). It was crunch time ! Justin Robinson sealed the end of the fourth quarter. First with two huge three-pointers followed by two perfectly executed free throws, our Parisians TOOK THE LEAD with 37 seconds left on the clock !

However, ASVEL managed to force overtime (81-81) – a first under Francesco Tabellini. Oxygen was running low at the LDLC Arena. And just as Paris found a second wind, Villeurbanne cracked! Interceptions, a step back with Nadir Hifi‘s board, a BIG BLOCK by Momo Faye… our more lucid players made their physical superiority count. But once again, the home team snatched five extra minutes (88-88).

Fatigue is setting in on both sides. And ASVEL takes 4 MINUTES to find the weak spot in the Parisian fortress guarded by serial scorer Yakuba Ouattara. Bastien Vautier keeps Villeurbanne’s hopes alive, but this time Jared Rhoden decides to end the suspense with a CLUTCH jump shot !

It’s over: PARIS WINS (93-97) !
