Ward: “Securing the victory against Monaco”
After the defeat on Monday evening in the postponed match against Fenerbahce, Tyson Ward spoke, remaining positive despite everything.
Tyson, it was a tough game. Both teams didn’t want to give up, but the match turned in their favor. How do you explain that?
“The key to the game was the offensive rebounds. They grabbed 29. When your opponents take 29 offensive rebounds, it’s extremely difficult to win. That’s what made us lose the game. They hit big shots, managed to win most of the 50/50 balls… But that’s part of the game too.”
A word about your performance. You were outstanding offensively, but especially defensively. Was it the coach’s wish to see you so aggressive defensively?
“It’s part of my job (smiles). I want to make the most of my playing time to help the team as much as possible. I always try to bring energy, make the necessary efforts, contribute by hitting big shots, etc. But most of the time, defending is more important than scoring.”
Even though there’s a loss tonight, we remain 4th in the Euroleague, and we’re facing Monaco this Wednesday at the Adidas Arena. We’ll have to quickly lift our heads because the playoff race is still ongoing!
“Yes, exactly. Every game is important, and as you know, a lot of EuroLeague teams are close in the standings. We know we can do it, we take every game very seriously. We have to forget this game against Fener, rest, and look ahead to face Monaco and secure the win. We have the mentality we need to move forward in the EuroLeague. We’ll quickly move on to the next thing to be ready by Wednesday.“
