T.J. Shorts: “2,000 points is completely crazy!”

Once again outstanding against Bayern Munich, T.J. Shorts spoke ahead of the match against Fenerbahçe this Monday (8:30 PM). It was an opportunity to discuss his symbolic achievement of surpassing 2,000 points scored in our colors.

T.J., you’ve officially become the first player in Paris Basketball history to surpass the 2,000-point mark with the club. How does that make you feel?

“Wow, I didn’t know that at all (laughs). It’s really an incredible accomplishment. Two years I’ve been here, 2,000 points, it’s completely crazy. All the teammates I had last year, those I have now, my past and present coaches, I know I wouldn’t have achieved this without their help. Now that you mention it, I think back to when I started basketball at 4 years old. I’ve grown, I’ve become a man, and it reminds me that the little me didn’t even know what it meant to become a professional. But now, knowing I’ve accomplished such a feat, it’s a real honor, and I’ll forever be grateful to everyone who helped me get here.”

For your information, Nadir Hifi is close to you—he’s at 1,916 points. You’ll have to keep scoring if you don’t want him to catch up.

“Yeah (laughs). I’ll have to keep scoring if Nadir is catching up ! He’s a player full of talent; he can score in many different ways. But I hope I can keep scoring as much as possible and extend my lead so I can enjoy it as much as possible before he passes me.”

A word about the game and the support of the fans last Thursday for the Bayern Munich match. We saw them go absolutely wild in the final quarter. Did you feel all that energy?

“The fans were amazing that night. They gave us the energy we needed to win the game. They literally turned the arena into a volcano and made sure we knew we were at home, and that’s what we want. We want the arena to keep filling up, to keep supporting us. Watching them go all out throughout the game to cheer us on really helped us find the strength to deliver that win for them. I’m incredibly thankful to them, and we’ll need them even more for the upcoming home games.”
