Paris to the power of three

That makes it three! Once again caught up in a nail-biting finish, Paris Basketball held off a comeback from Anadolu Efes and are now within sight of the EuroLeague’s top 10 (95–90).

First play, first defensive stop, first block – courtesy of Momo. First foray by Nadir, first basket, first “and-one.” It’s hard to imagine a start to a game more “Paris Basketball-style”! Especially when Seba puts on a clinic in long-range “run-and-gun” basketball just minutes into the game. Our Parisians come out firing – but Anadolu fires right back. Initially, free throws dictate the flow of the game. Then, thanks to players like Tyson Etienne and Cameron Payne, the three-point shot takes center stage, followed by a flurry of aggressive drives to the rim. Keeping pace with the hosts on the scoreboard, our second unit – bolstered by Jared’s contributions in both scoring and rebounding – closes the gap to within a single possession. This momentum culminates in a clinical catch-and-shoot bucket by Jeremy to end the first quarter (23-26). It was the prelude to an impressive surge! Paris quickly takes the lead, fueled by another “and-one” – this time from TJ. This sudden shift in tempo is driven by a level of Parisian aggression that far outstrips that of the Istanbul side. While our defense locks things down, our offensive threats pierce the blue armor time and again. Whether through crisp ball movement or well-timed cuts into the paint, Léo’s teammates consistently create high-quality scoring opportunities. It’s a stark contrast to Efes, who repeatedly commit offensive fouls, leading to a significant dry spell for them whenever they have the ball. Only Cameron Payne manages to break the spell, hitting shots of extraordinary difficulty. While their backcourt tries to respond, the interior belongs to us—our big men are truly dictating the terms of the game. From forced turnovers to steals by Maozinha, the intensity on display is reflected on the scoreboard. It’s only in the final moments that our opponents manage to surpass 10 points for the second quarter! To cap it all off, Nadir drains a sublime mid-range jump shot at the buzzer (42-36).

A massive duel between the 2025 French champions sets the tone for the start of the second half. The “Prince of Paris” faces a formidable adversary in Collin Malcolm – a former regular at the Adidas Arena – who tries to keep pace with Nadir’s explosive drives toward the rim. Meanwhile, TJ occasionally strikes from deep, hitting clean shots from beyond the arc. These crucial buckets prove vital as the Turkish side’s big men begin to assert their dominance. Despite the growing presence of players like Bruno Fernando and Dario Saric, Paris Basketball manages to pull away – only to strike back even harder! Even during a mid-game lull, the Parisians hold firm. Trailing by a narrow margin heading into the fourth quarter (66-70), the team suddenly finds its stride. With a drive to the basket from TJ, an offensive foul drawn by Tyson, yet another supersonic drive from Nadir, a midrange jumper from Jared, and a put-back by Maozinha, the momentum shifts! Paris puts an end to their rough patch, looking the Turkish side square in the eye as the game enters the decisive “money time.” Now, it is the hosts who find themselves chasing the score. Symbolizing this shift in momentum, the Istanbul side – previously disciplined and foul-free – suddenly finds itself in the penalty. Following a sequence that features a long-range basket from Nadir and a steal by Tyson, Pablo Laso calls a timeout – a move that ultimately leads to a successful defensive stop by Paris! Yet, nothing is set in stone; fueled once again by Collin Malcolm, the opposition keeps their hopes of victory alive. But in the battle from three-point range, Maxime Lefèvre’s men come out on top. Staying composed, the Parisian players manage possession intelligently, sink their free throws, and – most importantly – stave off the “blue waves” of the opposition (95-90).

Paris Basketball went out and secured their third consecutive EuroLeague victory. Just as in their two previous European wins, our Parisians managed to keep their heads above water during the tough spells before showing their resilience in the closing stages.
