Paris eliminated by Bourg

Paris Basketball will not be advancing to the Leaders Cup semifinals after Friday night’s defeat in overtime against JL Bourg (74-78).

Justin kicked off our Leaders Cup campaign with a nice midrange shot followed by a big long-range shot on his first attempt. The tone was set : Paris clearly had the upper hand at the start of the game ! Especially since this big sequence made in the USA gave way to a nice phase from Yak. Already in the penalty zone in less than five minutes, JL decided to toughen up their game. The match became rough, with a string of fouls and a choppy rhythm, but our players held their ground. After a mini slump, Paris Basketball relied on a superb entry by Allan to equalize at the end of the 1st quarter (23-23) and then lead the scoreboard during the first half of the 2nd quarter. Momo‘s hard work on both sides of the court paid off. However, JL sinks its shots from the parking lot, allowing Burgundy to head into the locker room with a 3-point lead (40-47).

Paris Basketball comes out strong in the second half without the ball. Faced with enormous pressure from Yak coupled with Allan‘s deterrence, JL can’t find a solution for almost 3 minutes. Amath broke the deadlock in the third quarter with his signature fadeaway. In the space of 45 seconds, Paris got back into the game thanks to our two All-Stars ! Only four points separated the two teams (56-60) ! This nail-biter would be decided in the fourth quarter. Once again, JL couldn’t get anything going to start with. Once again, Bourg used up its five fouls in a matter of minutes, while Amath‘s hot streak continued into overtime. However, he missed the small basket that would have allowed Paris to overtake Bourg.

As we entered crunch time, our Parisians hung on. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough (74-77).
