A gruelling match 1
Paris Basketball lost the first semi-final match of the Betclic ÉLITE following a heartbreaking defeat after a rollercoaster finish against Cholet (89–90).
Fast breaks combined with long-range shots set the tone for the start of the series. This up-tempo style of basketball, championed by both coaches, immediately takes hold of the arena. A succession of skilful attacking moves, all of a similar nature, with the difference lying in a few details. The Cholet ball-handlers hold onto the ball longer, opting for isolation plays before delivering a through-ball to their shooters. Our Parisian players, meanwhile, play more quickly until a gap opens up. Caught off guard, the latter commit fouls which we convert into points. The battle for rebounds is similarly one-sided. At the end of the first quarter, for example, our players manage to grab nearly three offensive rebounds in a single play. And generally speaking, Paris dominates the opening minutes of these semi-finals. Behind them, CB seesawed, trailing by between one and three possessions. Spurred on by a Daulton on fire from the perimeter, Paris Basketball ended the second quarter with a solid 29-26 lead. The free-throw line remains busy for us, although the balance of power shifts under the basket and on the scoreboard. T. J. Campbell and his young understudy Aaron Towo-Nansi put in a top-class performance. At the break, the visitors lead by a narrow margin (49-51).

Daulton started the second half just as he had started the match: with a three-pointer! The second unit maintained this high standard, but Cholet were more than a match for them. The defensive pressure from both sides was such that any forays into the opposition’s half required meticulous execution. From the corner, Jared levelled the score ahead of the final sprint (69–69). We’re having a difficult start to the fourth quarter. Two quick three-pointers in quick succession keep us within striking distance. In the opposition’s half, our players create chances, draw fouls and head to the line. For Cholet, the strategy is simple: pelting the basket from behind the arc. Our Parisians face a big run, which they partially counter with baskets from Daulton and Allan. Then, on a drive, Jared sends the adidas Arena into absolute raptures! A celebration that T. J. Campbell spoils with his last two free throws (89-90).
No one gave up during those 40 minutes! The adidas Arena was treated to a thrilling display full of intensity and fast-paced action. The scores kept changing back and forth on the scoreboard. But in the end, the Choletais took the first leg.
No time to rest! See you this Thursday for the second leg of this semi-final. Tickets are available via this link.
