Paris by a hair against Strasbourg
Trailing throughout the game, the Paris Basketball U21 team failed to capitalize on their opportunity last Saturday, despite some strong comebacks in this 25th round of the championship (80-92).
Paris Basketball was playing for a spot in the Top 5 of the Elite U21 league this weekend. Following a crucial victory in the race for the Trophée du Futur (Future Trophy) in the Parisian derby, our U21 team traveled to Strasbourg, currently in 5th place.
Oscar Wembanyama’s teammates started strong. In just a few offensive plays, they built a significant lead. Our Parisians eventually stemmed the bleeding but couldn’t close the gap in the first quarter (17-27). The comeback began to take shape midway through the second quarter. Our dominance on the boards, combined with solid defensive plays, proved decisive. The highlight of this superb sequence came with a huge dunk by Mamadou Sissoko, bringing Paris within a single possession (33-36). However, SIG showed more composure as halftime approached (38-47).
The Parisians’ strong response didn’t last the half. Both teams traded penalties midway through the third quarter, but it didn’t significantly alter the scoreboard (55-69). The balance shifted as the game entered its final stretch. Just like in the first quarter, both Parisians experienced periods of success. Timeouts made no difference! Strasbourg watched helplessly as their lead dwindled to just 3 points after a deep three-pointer from Marko Aleksic (72-75). Ultimately, Paris Basketball failed to sink the basket that would have given them the lead. SIG capitalized on this to launch a decisive final stretch (80-92).
This Wednesday, for the rescheduled 21st round of the Espoirs ÉLITE league, our young Parisians will face a struggling Gravelines-Dunkerque side. It’s an opportunity for them to solidify their place in the Top 7.
