Amath rejoins the French national team
Three and a half years after his last selection, our power forward – Amath M’Baye – returns to the French national team for the 2027 World Cup qualifiers.
The news broke on Monday afternoon. Amath M’Baye is among the 14 players chosen by Frédéric Fauthoux to compete in this crucial doubleheader against Hungary on 27 February and 1 March. It’s a logical choice given the season the man with 43 caps is having.
At 36, Amath is one of the pleasant surprises of the season. In his first steps in Betclic ÉLITE, he is exploding onto the scene, just like his selection for the last LNB All-Star Game. The same is true in the EuroLeague, where his experience coupled with his talent allows him to continue to weigh on opposing defences. His signature fadeaway hasn’t aged a bit, nor has his winning mentality. Today, he is one of the best power forwards in France.
Our Parisian has experienced it all with the French national team. Present during one of Les Bleus’ greatest all-time achievements against Team USA at the 2019 World Cup, he more recently distinguished himself at Eurobasket 2022, which ended with a silver medal won after a sensational run.
However, this break will be a special one, as for the first time his head coach will be Frédéric Fauthoux and not Vincent Collet.
