Paris bows out at the end
In the heart of an adidas arena in FUSION on Thursday evening, Paris Basketball lost at the end of the night (105-108) to Žalgiris Kaunas, led by an unstoppable Sylvain Francisco.
After two major victories in three days against Saint-Quentin (99-69) and Le Portel (110-80), Paris Basketball returned to EuroLeague action on matchday 15. It was a high-profile clash against Maodo Lô’s Žalgiris Kaunas.
Facing three former club players, our Parisians showed no mercy in the first quarter. Between Allan Dokossi‘s TOMARS and a 5/7 three-pointers, Tabellini’s team led the scoreboard (28-28). Kaunas, meanwhile, relied on Williams-Gos, who scored 10 points in 6 minutes, to stay in the game. But that was before Paris played what was probably its best quarter of the season.
For 10 minutes, the visitors were completely outplayed. With pinpoint execution of pick-and-rolls, zero turnovers and nine offensive rebounds, Paris Basketball ended the first half 56-48 against the second-best defence in the EuroLeague! At the start of the third quarter, however, our former playmaker, Sylvain Francisco, switched into MVP mode. Our players resisted, before finally succumbing at the very end of crunch time (105-108) despite an exceptional performance from Nadir Hifi (27 points) and a clutch performance from Amath M’Baye.
