Biography of Mouhamed Faye
Born on 5 February 2005, Mouhamed Faye spends most of his time chasing a ball… a football! Yes, until the age of 13, the Senegalese rarely attempted to dunk. But by happy coincidence, there is a basketball court not far from his home in Dakar. Through sheer practice, Momo ended up catching the eye of Andrea Menozzi, a scout for Pallacanestro Reggiana. Without a moment’s hesitation, the young teenager, then only 16 years old, headed for Italy.
But before that, as a warm-up for his European adventure, Mouhamed Faye took part in the Afrobasket U18 tournament in the summer of 2022. During those 10 days, the Lions of Teranga player gave his first warning to the world of basketball. In the future, this centre will be a force to be reckoned with. His statistics speak for themselves: best rating (25), best rebounder (13.7) and, incidentally, second in the scoring rankings (18.2). And remember, we’re still talking about a centre.
A complete change of environment, requiring a period of adjustment on the other side of the Mediterranean. In his first season (2022-2023) against the best prospects on the Old Continent, our centre is making an impression. Whether in Emilia-Romagna or during the U18 Next Gen tournament, where he averaged a double-double (18.9 points, 11 rebounds).
Clearly still eager to join Paris Basketball, Mouhamed Faye is not content with simply being promoted to Pallacanestro Reggiana’s first team. No, he prefers to establish himself as a key player in the rotation. At only 18 years old, the Senegalese player took part in 37 games during the 2023-24 season. He also won the title of best young player in the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA).
Elevated to the rank of virtually undisputed starter in his sophomore season, Mouhamed Faye settled comfortably into the Italian courts. And while the team’s results have declined somewhat, his individual performances have skyrocketed. From a promising prospect, he has become a leading centre in the LBA… as well as in the Basketball Champions League, becoming the youngest player in the history of the competition to score 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 blocks in a single game.
He is therefore a real talent who is joining Paris Basketball this summer. His ambition is to establish himself as one of the very best centres in the EuroLeague. The NBA is also one of his big goals.
What role will Mouhamed Faye play for Paris Basketball in the 2025-2026 season
His versatility, coupled with his impressive physique, already puts him at the top of his game in this area. Aggressive, agile, athletic and already blessed with elite motor skills despite his young age, he can almost single-handedly change a team’s defence. Playing away from the basket? No problem, he will navigate pick-and-rolls while making excellent use of his lateral speed to become an indispensable part of the Paris Basketball system.
