On another planet

That’s what you call finishing in style ! Stratospheric throughout this 37th round, Paris Basketball ends its EuroLeague season at home with a record points total in the competition against Maccabi Tel-Aviv (113-80).

Paris wastes no time ! Barely a tip-off, Justin is tackled by Clark III to grab the ball before Allan blasts through the basket. The tone is set! The worst part is, it’s just a warning shot. From then on, the game heats up, but only in one direction. Overheated, our Parisians set the parking lot ablaze. Up close, Allan and then Momo are firing on all cylinders. From long range, Justin and Seba are literally on fire. The heat emanating from our powerhouse is so intense that the visitors have great difficulty keeping their composure. That’s all it takes for our players to rack up steals and then launch their rockets in transition. Even a cheetah seems to run in slow motion compared to the fervor of our players. To call it a blistering start would be an understatement given the production put forth by Paris Basketball. Simply put, in just over four minutes, they’d already surpassed the 20-point mark! Determined to capitalize on their momentum, our attackers, including Jared and Léo, continued to pierce the yellow shield play after play. Powerless, the Israelis tried their best to plug the damage to their ship, battered by the relentless Parisian onslaught… to no avail. The scoreboard went wild! Julius Thomas’s team finished just two points shy of the all-time EuroLeague record for points scored in a quarter (41-24). Slowly but surely, the game evened out. Our opponents took advantage of a series of free throws to stem the bleeding, especially as they finally managed to rack up a few stops. This doesn’t stop Amath from unleashing his signature fadeaways, nor Nadir from sinking long-range one-footed dunks. While the baskets are falling less frequently, the gap widens (61-38).

The start of the second half can be summed up in one name: Justin! Already fired up before halftime, our point guard manages to shift into another gear. Acrobatic and-ones, incredible three-pointers, and perfectly timed assists are among the offerings for Maccabi. All the ingredients seen so far on the Parisian side are still present in their offense: Retrieve – Transition – Punishment. Perhaps the difference is that our players are visiting the free-throw line more often. The 20-point lead gives way to the 30-point mark. Deprived of their usual, much-feared outside-inside connection, the visitors survive the onslaught of long-range dunks. Pick and roll or pick and pop, no remedy can eliminate this Parisian parasite with its superbly effective marking. The flurry of fouls continued to rain down in the adidas Arena throughout the third quarter, much to the delight of Paris Basketball (93-58). 40! As soon as the fourth quarter began, a 40-point lead separated us from Tel Aviv. A rare occurrence in the EuroLeague, unprecedented in European competition for Paris. In a league of their own, JMO, Daulton, and company continued to showcase the breadth of their offensive arsenal. Finally, with yet another fantastic shot from Lamar in the corner, Paris broke its record for points scored on the biggest stage in Europe. This virtuoso performance ultimately ended with a score of 113-80.

What can we say… Paris Basketball simply stunned one of the hottest teams in Europe for 40 minutes. Maccabi never even threatened our Parisians. All that’s left to do is tip our hats to them!

EuroLeague action at the Adidas Arena is over for this season, unlike Betclic ÉLITE! We’ll see you on Saturday, May 2nd against Chalon. To reserve your tickets now, click here.
