A match for the history

Launched into orbit by an EXCEPTIONAL first half, Paris Basketball narrowly defeated Olimpia Milano in Julius Thomas’s first game at the adidas Arena during this 35th round of EuroLeague play (103-93).

Precision versus power, speed versus physicality, up-tempo versus half-court… For our return after ten days away from home, a packed adidas Arena was treated to a magnificent clash of styles. Milan took their time building up play, forced to play with the 24-second shot clock due to the relentless pressure from Paris Basketball. Initially, the visitors managed to cope, thanks in particular to the strength of their big men. Our players adapted by cutting off passing lanes more. The problem: with each missed opportunity, Olimpia barely had time to blink before Léo and company were already on the attack. The contrast was stark. In less than 10 seconds, our Parisians capitalized on a clever mismatch, sinking shots from both long range and close range. Their relentless speed was compounded by a big stretch from Derek at the end of the first quarter when the Italians tried to mount a comeback (30-19). Surely frustrated by this long, consistently fruitless offensive run, the Red and Whites reduced their possessions while simultaneously increasing the pace. But at this kind of game, we’re the best! Fueled by Nadir’s impressive string of and-ones, Julius Thomas’s men hammered their opponents. The game turned into a rout! Over 60 points – 19 of them directly from the Prince of Paris – in less than 10 minutes. Without a doubt, it was THE best half of our season (64-41).

And we were off again! This offensive explosion continued with three-pointers from Jared, Amath, and Derek. The Milanese team nevertheless stepped up their intensity, especially off the ball, where they tried to disrupt our ball handlers. This worked for a while. They got closer to the scoreboard thanks to a plethora of free throws. Our mojo eventually caught up with us on the court, however. Although the game was chaotic, Paris Basketball stayed in control. Especially since Derek kept hitting the rim at the end of the 3rd quarter (87-76). But nothing was over yet. Olimpia wanted their crunch time and made it happen. A series of powerful cuts coupled with a long-range shot brought our opponents within one possession midway through the 4th quarter (88-87). That was too much for our LNB MVP duo, Amath and Nadir, who unleashed their “and-one” card, an extra explosion at the Adidas Arena. Trapped by penalties, the Italians helplessly watched their beloved free throws turn against them. The downward spiral intensified as our players decided to thwart every attempt by the red team to break the deadlock. Once again comfortably ahead, Paris secured a victory in a frenzied atmosphere (103-93).

Joy, fear, madness, excitement… Tonight, we experienced every possible emotion basketball can evoke. A unique blend of all-time best-of-the-time halftime action and sensational drama that our fans won’t soon forget !
