Paris cracks in Munich at the very end of the match

What a battle ! After a fiercely physical match from start to finish, Paris Basketball lost 81-75 on Tuesday evening away to Bayern Munich in the EuroLeague.

The victory was decided at the very end of the game on the 26th day of the regular season. For 35 minutes, our Parisians gave Bayern Munich a run for their money, but the Bavarians never cracked.

Paris got off to a strong start ! Boosted by two big long-range shots from Justin Robinson and Seba Herrera, our players quickly took the upper hand over the home team. And as the 3-point lead dwindled, Nadir Hifi continued to wreak havoc in the Munich backcourt, drawing 3 fouls in 2 minutes! From far and near, our Parisians punished their opponents (10-12). Bayern eventually took the lead… but were still not out of the woods. Again and again, Paris Basketball attacked in a second quarter that turned into a real trench war. Our front line constantly harassed the opposing ball carriers (12 turnovers in the first half). Every possession was a battle, with defence clearly taking precedence over offence and both teams struggling to break the 30-point barrier.

At the start of the second half, nothing is decided. With only a one-possession deficit, Paris Basketball can still believe (34-31). In fact, our team is giving it their all! As the minutes tick by, the game settles down. The complexion of the match remains unchanged, except that our Parisians are increasing the pressure. They ran more, tried more, varied more and came dangerously close to the home team on multiple occasions (43-42). Once again, only three points separated the two teams at the end of the quarter (52-49). Everything would be decided in the last ten minutes! Although compact throughout the game, the defences let up. Bayern took advantage of this before Paris came back to the forefront (64-61).

Action after action, the Parisians and Munich responded tit for tat. Faced with the home team’s efficiency near the hoop, Paris responded very effectively with 3-pointers (4/6 in the 4th quarter). However, Paris Basketball was unable to recover from Andreas Obst’s hot streak (81-75). They missed that little shot, that little lay-up that would have allowed our players to take the lead at one point in the game. The absence of that spark did not detract from the selflessness shown by this team.
