The francilian derby for Paris

The Paris Basketball women’s team started the year with a 61-57 victory over Orly at the adidas arena on the 12th day of the Nationale II season.

Our Parisian women delighted our supporters on Sunday. A few hours before our first team’s 110-92 victory over Le Mans in Betcilc ÉLITE, our women’s team hosted Orly one month after their last league match.

Side by side in the standings, the two protagonists of the day responded to each other immediately. Despite a few inaccuracies, our players secured the essentials during the 1st quarter (13-11) before definitively launching hostilities at the start of the 2nd quarter. Led by Ines Salahy, who had a great night at point guard, Paris created the first gap of the game. Although the visitors also raised their game, it was Loïc Calvez’s team that took the lead at half-time (33-28).

Paris Basketball confirmed its rise to power. Interceptions, good ball movement, run and gun, and intensity on the opposing ball carrier. Our Parisian players stifled Orly, who, as they had done since the start of the game, reduced the gap at the very end of the third quarter (47-40). The pressure was mounting. Faced with a more aggressive team without the ball on our back lines, Paris opted for Eloïse Amilien in the paint. It worked for a while, with our women drawing fouls, but Orly responded with some well-timed interceptions.

As crunch time approached, our players were only one point ahead. That was the moment Paloma Wouts chose to catch fire. With nine points in three minutes, our forward set the adidas arena alight. All this while killing the suspense (61-57). Orly did not deserve to lose. The problem is that Paris fully lived up to its status as favourite.

More committed than ever to the race for promotion, the Paris Basketball women’s team will face SIG on 31 January at 5pm, this time at the Halle Carpentier.
