On to the semi-finals !

Paris Basketball made short work of SIG Strasbourg without breaking a sweat this Saturday afternoon in Game 3 of the Betclic ÉLITE quarter-finals (88–75).

This is definitely a do-or-die game ! The atmosphere is electric, the contact is rough, the aggression is intense, and fouls are flying (well, mostly on one side)… Our Parisians are here to avenge their Game 2 defeat, and they’re making that perfectly clear on the court. It takes Strasbourg just under two minutes to even get inside our arc. The waves of pressure unleashed by our first line are so powerful they could drown a fish. Constantly harassed, the opposing ball handlers are making mistake after mistake. SIG is also bringing their intensity, but this translates into a flurry of free throws in our favor. It’s impossible to stop Justin, Nadir, or Jared’s drives without breaking the rules! This chronic indiscipline since the start of the series is something our players are fully exploiting. In addition to the 15 points scored from beyond the arc, Amath and JMO are adding 3-pointers from 0-degree. No one’s cheating! Only rebounds combined with a few long-range shots allowed the Alsatians to limit the damage during this one-sided first quarter (26-19). Our opponents were slowly recovering from this sudden blow in the opening minutes of the game. The teams were evening out, as was the difference in the box score. And in the midst of this fierce battle, a Strasbourg player caught fire. It wasn’t a SIG player, but the Prince of Paris! On defense, with passing, driving to the basket, shooting. Nadir was putting on a show. Strasbourg tried to trap him and even double-team him, but nothing changed. Just like in our first half, Paris finished the second quarter with two huge defensive stops (54-41)!

Same team, same approach ! No gifts are being handed out by either side, as evidenced by the meager 4 points scored in the first two minutes of the second quarter. But in the meantime, our Parisians haven’t let up at all. No, no, the black car keeps accelerating! On yet another transition, we cross the 20-point mark! The gap is widening mainly in our half of the court. Our defensive intensity is so high that every point SIG manages to score is met with a significant counter-attack. Without the ball, the Alsatians also try to destabilize us. A waste of energy that ultimately proves fruitless, given the composure of our guards. Surrounded by two or three players, Yak’s teammates consistently manage to switch the play and find an open shot. This considerable lead, accumulated at the start of the 4th quarter (70-57), spurred our players to maintain this pace, which was far too fast for the exhausted visitors. Paris exuded serenity during the final stretch of this series. Strasbourg tried everything, but it was too late. In front of their home crowd, Paris Basketball won this decisive game, securing their place in the semifinals (88-75).

Despite the typical pressure of a Game 3 quarterfinal, the Parisians, perfectly in sync with their game, never seemed to doubt themselves. SIG was simply outclassed.
