No upset in Cholet
The expected outcome prevailed for the Paris Basketball U21 team, who were defeated last Saturday by league leaders Cholet in the 26th round of the championship (75-102).
In the midst of a comeback following their important midweek victory against Gravelines-Dunkerque (81-43), our young Parisians faced a formidable challenge on Cholet’s home court. The reigning champions and current first-place team in the Espoirs ÉLITE league welcomed us as the heavy favorites. This status was amplified by the surprise inclusion of Aaron Towo-Nansi in the starting lineup.
Paris held firm in the opening minutes. Facing an increasingly aggressive red tide, our team weathered the storm, thanks in part to strong rebounding. But by the first quarter, the home team had already established a comfortable lead (21-31). The same pattern repeated itself in the second quarter. Paris Basketball initially held their own before once again succumbing to the opposing offense (36-52). There was no quick comeback for our U21 team, who, despite their best efforts, were powerless against this opponent (75-102).
Having fallen just short of the Top 7, our U21 team will have a crucial match on Wednesday, April 29th, on Nanterre’s home court. This decisive encounter against their direct rival for qualification to the TrophĂ©e du Futur (Future Trophy) is a key game.
