Pierric Poupet : “ The credit goes 100 per cent to the players ”

A crazy game, a thrilling finish, the adidas Arena in a frenzy… Our associate head coach – Pierric Poupet – gave a detailed account of Paris Basketball’s victory on Thursday evening in the EuroLeague against Žalgiris Kaunas (82-78).

Our Parisians have done it – they’ve secured their first EuroLeague win of the season! Spurred on by a raucous adidas Arena during the crunch time, Paris responded perfectly to Kaunas’s comeback to ultimately secure the win. It was a completely mad scenario, as Pierric Poupet points out :

“ First of all, it’s great to have won our first home game. It’s great to see a team connecting with its fans, and it’s good to have won despite a rather tricky situation for us. We controlled the game for much of the match. Then there were a few minutes where we wavered a bit; we showed a little fragility. But after that we were very good off the ball, as seen in Seba’s key defensive stops against Carson Edwards. That then gave us momentum in attack. It’s brilliant because the team’s confidence is built on matches like this. ”

With just a few minutes to go, however, it was the Lithuanians who were comfortably in the lead. Very specific instructions were then given to the players :

“ The instructions were to target Jonas Valančiūnas to try and take him out of the game, which Jared and Allan, in particular, carried out very well. It was also to stay very calm, as we had players who were starting to rack up a lot of minutes on their legs. I’m thinking in particular of Nadir. He had a great game as point guard today; admittedly he was still a bit clumsy, but he managed the momentum and the tempo well. Those were the instructions: to manage the game and focus on two or three key things, which they carried out very well. So 100 per cent of the credit goes to the players. ”

This success is also down to our fans, who turned out in force for the occasion. Our associate head coach would like to thank you for your unwavering support :

“ First of all, I’d like to thank our supporters. I’d like to thank them for making such a noise right from the start of the match. The arena was buzzing! It was really nice for me too to be on the winning side in this match, and to just enjoy it. The supporters’ stand made a lot of noise during the match, whilst getting the whole of the adidas Arena behind them. I hope we’ll have many more great evenings like this. If we win matches and the arena is even fuller, I think it’ll be brilliant. So thank you to them. ”
