Maodo Lô: “The Arena is not like any other arena !”

A few days before the clash against Bayern Munich, Maodo Lô spoke about the idea of facing his former teammates on the Euroleague courts, while also highlighting the development of German basketball.

How does it feel to face Bayern Munich as an opponent in a Paris Basketball jersey?

“It’s really great. After being in professional basketball for a long time, you start getting used to playing against your former club or former teammates. But it’s always a real pleasure. Of course, we’re going to do everything we can to win. There won’t be any gifts. Winning on Thursday is important for us.”

We can see that Bayern Munich is having a great season in Euroleague, and that Germany is at the top of European basketball… How do you explain the impressive development of German basketball in recent years?

“I think the national team’s impact has been significant. We had been on a good run for a while, but the title really triggered something. We’re seeing young players emerge, come to play in the Bundesliga, and succeed in the NBA, all with the desire to represent our country well. It’s a source of pride. It shows that all the work done in recent years has paid off.”

You’re close to your 250th Euroleague appearance. What’s the secret to your longevity?

“A lot of discipline, mental and physical work, and education. I’ve always wanted to be the best. When you’re in college (NCAA), it’s a mentality you adopt and keep until the end. But it’s mainly the work that has allowed me to be where I am today.”

A word on the Adidas Arena. We’re undefeated at home in Betclic ELITE, having won many tough games. How do you explain this great success?

“The Adidas Arena is not like any other arena. When you travel and discover other arenas in Europe, you realize that ours has something different. The Adidas Arena brings everyone together. At every game, you see young people, older people, people coming from all corners of Paris, etc… And seeing all these people coming from different parts of Paris, gathering to support us, it’s always a pleasure.”
